Costs

 You do not need a referral from a GP for private treatment, but it's a good idea to speak to your GP for advice about your weight issues first. Please do as much research as possible before you come to clinic and this will help us have a better discussion about your options or preferences.

The cost in Jersey is not vastly different to the UK but we cannot currently do a ‘package’. This means that you have to separately pay for the hospital stay, your anaesthetist, dietician support and my surgical fee.

Overall typical prices are:

• Gastric band removal – £4,000 to £8,000
• Gastric bypass – £10,000 to £15,000
• Sleeve gastrectomy – £10,000 to £12,000
• Revision surgery - please discuss

• Initial consultation - £275
• Follow up at 2 weeks - free
• Follow up thereafter  - £180
• Surgical fee - £2000-£2600 (dependent on operation)
• On Island care - free
• 24/7 emergency cover

 Intra-gastric balloons are priced differently as a partial package for insertion and a separate one for removal including two dietician appointments - please see that page. Overall costs are between £4000-7000.

 Many people consider having treatment abroad, where costs can be cheaper. But please be aware that however they seem, standards may not be as strict in clinics/hospitals outside of Jersey and the UK, and aftercare is not always straightforward. I have had personal experience of patients who have had surgical disasters when having their surgery abroad. At the moment, the States are supporting me in sorting these unfortunate patients out but the UK NHS is looking to deny patients free care who have gone abroad and had complications (it may be worth taking out insurance if you do go abroad to cover private costs of revisional surgery if required). If you have had a problem after surgery, then please let me know and I will look into how I can support and help you publicly or privately. If you are thinking of going overseas for treatment then please make sure you balance savings against the risks.
